Why cutting the pauses keeps people watching
- The first second decides. Dead air at the start is the easiest way to lose a viewer before you’ve said anything. The remover always trims it.
- Short videos move fast. A one-second pause feels normal in a conversation and slow on a phone. “Tight” gives the quick jump-cut style viewers expect on Shorts and TikTok.
- Don’t overdo it on long videos. For a lesson or a podcast, “Silences only” keeps your natural rhythm and still takes out the gaps.
- Then add captions. Most people watch with the sound off. Run the result through the free auto caption generator, and turn a landscape video vertical with the 16:9 to 9:16 converter.
Questions
What’s the difference between removing silences and removing pauses?
Silences are the long gaps: dead air before you start, while you think, or after you finish. Pauses are the shorter breaks between sentences. “Silences only” cuts gaps over a second and leaves your natural rhythm; “Silences and pauses” also tightens the breaks between sentences; “Tight” gives the fast jump-cut style common on Shorts and TikTok.
Is my video uploaded anywhere?
No. Everything happens in your browser: the sound is measured, the cuts are made and the new MP4 is saved on your device. Nothing is sent to ClipIQ or anyone else.
Will it cut off the start or end of my words?
It keeps a little quiet on each side of every cut and fades the sound for a few milliseconds at each join, so words aren’t clipped and the cuts don’t click. If a soft word does get cut, move the “Counts as silent below” slider lower and it will treat quieter sound as speech.
It cut too much, or not enough. What do I change?
Try a different strength first. Then use the slider: lower it if quiet speech is being cut, raise it if background noise (a fan, traffic, music) is keeping silences in. The sound wave shows each cut in red, and the numbers update as you go, so you can see the change before you save.
How long can the video be?
Up to an hour. The new video is held in your browser’s memory before it’s saved, so long or 4K videos need a computer with plenty of memory. Re-encoding takes a while, roughly the length of the video or less on a recent computer.
